Spursy is actually a compliment, actually
People say "spursy" like it's a slur. I have sat with this word for years now, turned it over, held it up to the light, and I am here to tell you that they have been insulting us with a compliment the entire time.
Let's define terms. Spursy: a collapse that arrives right on schedule, right when the neutrals started to believe. Rivals say it with a smirk. Pundits say it like it's the funniest thing they've seen all season.
They are not being clever. They are describing a club that refuses to cheat its way out of a hard moment.
Look at what other clubs do when things get tight. They buy a result. They get a favour from an official. They sign a player nobody can explain the financing for, and suddenly the wheels stop coming off.
That is not resilience. That is a workaround. We do not do workarounds at this club.
When Tottenham fall short, we fall short honestly. No mystery investors. No creative accounting. No quiet word in anyone's ear.
Just eleven players, one stadium that is genuinely the best in the country, and a result that did not go our way through pure, unfiltered, uncorrupted football. That is not a flaw. That is financial fair play with a broken heart, and I will take it over whatever it is the other lot are doing, every single time.
Update, 28 September 2026: twelve days after I wrote that, Manchester City were reportedly found guilty on almost every charge, and Tottenham are reportedly one of the clubs that kept the receipts.
This season is a full rebuild under De Zerbi, and the results so far have been rough. Fine. Say it with me, rough is honest. Rough is what happens when you refuse to buy your way around a problem.
A club with something to hide does not look rough. It looks suspiciously smooth. I would ask you to consider who in this league looks a little too smooth right now.
Meanwhile, every time Arsenal lose, I sleep like a baby. And every time some club with about ten Ballon d'Or nominees in one dressing room wins something, I do not see genius. I see a panel of judges who have never watched an honest football match in their lives.
So no, do not apologise for spursy on my behalf. Wear it. It means we built it properly, the slow way, without cutting a single corner. It means when it goes wrong, it goes wrong in daylight, in front of everyone, with nothing to hide.
Spursy is not a diagnosis. It is a character reference. Come on you Spurs.
